“I would go to his house like that, because we couldn’t go anywhere. I traveled that way just in case somebody saw me,” the BLACKPINK star admitted about her elaborate months-long disguise routine.
Global superstar Rosé of BLACKPINK has revealed the extraordinary and “crazy” lengths she once went to keep a romantic relationship private. The 28-year-old rapper guested on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. She talked about the Grammy nominations, her solo success, her relationship status, and the pressures of dating as a K-pop idol.
Rosé revealed that she spent months disguising herself as an elderly woman so she could secretly visit her ex-boyfriend without being recognized. The BLACKPINK star admitted that at the height of her paranoia about being photographed, she felt she had no other choice.
The disguise wasn’t something she tried once or twice, but a routine she kept up for months. She started with a short, black, curly wig she ordered online and quickly realized it had to be done properly if it was going to work. From there, she began closely observing elderly women on the streets of Korea. She paid attention to the way they dressed, the shoes they wore, the bags they carried, and even how they walked.
Rosé then recreated those looks herself, ordering flowery long skirts, light blue clothing, and practical accessories from Korean online shopping sites. Over time, slowly built a full wardrobe around the disguise. Eventually, she even set aside a section of her home just for what she called her “grandma clothes.” To make it more believable, she practiced walking like an older person so she wouldn’t stand out.
The reason she felt she had to do this was that she and her boyfriend couldn’t be seen together in public. Rosé explained that entertainment outlets in Korea, especially Dispatch, are known for closely watching celebrities’ homes and movements to expose relationships. Her then-boyfriend also joined in to avoid getting caught, dressing in a more “grandpa-like” way when he came to see her.
On the Call Her Daddy Podcast, the “APT.” singer also spoke about why she prefers to keep relationships private now. She connected those feelings to her decision to stay quiet about her relationships. She explained that she wants to “protect the person I love.” Plus, she doesn’t feel “completely safe” to be in a public relationship, given how famous she is and how intense public attention can be.
On the work front, Rosé received Grammy nominations for her song APT. and will continue promotions of BLACKPINK’s album, Deadline, out next month.
