BLINKs were in for a treat as three out of four BLACKPINK members attended the Met Gala this year.
For her third Met appearance, Jennie is back to her roots, representing Chanel in a gender-bending outfit. The elegant yet modern look perfectly captured the evening’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme.
Jennie made a statement in a bespoke Chanel ensemble inspired by the late Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall/Winter 1987 collection. The look was designed by the former Chanel creative director’s iconic muse, Inès de La Fressange.
She stunned in a show-stopping black leather satin jumpsuit, intricately adorned with beaded cabochons, lustrous pearls, a delicate white silk camellia, and sparkling jewel buttons. The ensemble was completed with a dramatic black leather satin overskirt lined with crisp white taffeta, a striking two-tone hat, and sleek Chanel pumps. This masterpiece, crafted over 330 hours, perfectly embodied Chanel’s theme while elevating it with modern elegance and feminine flair.
The 29-year-old singer completed the look with a top hat, which added elegance to her style. She was sweet and playful for her Met Gala debut in a vintage Chanel mini dress and bold and artistic in a cobalt Alaïa dress last year. Jennie opted for a sophisticated and refined look this year with this tuxedo dress.
While talking to Vogue, the “Mantra” singer explained the inspiration behind the dress, saying, “I am wearing custom Chanel, a tailored black jumpsuit inside, and then a sculptural overskirt. Everything was inspired by the 20s and 30s of the Chanel runways. And I just feel so good with the hat and everything.”
Jennie was asked about how she interpreted the theme, “I do my best, I do my research, actually it was wonderful working with the Chanel team, because coming from Coco Chanel’s legacy and history, it had everything to do with what we wanted to represent.”
Regarding the upcoming BLACKPINK tour, the K-pop star refused to comment, “I can’t be the one spoiling everything, but it’s gonna be good.”
Fans were impressed by her sartorial choices, with many saying she “devoured” the look.
Her bandmates Rosé and Lisa, as well as SEVENTEEN member S.Coup walked the iconic Met staircase this year.
