BoA Calls Off 25th Anniversary Concert After Knee Surgery Diagnosis

BoA

BoA will be stepping away from the stage this summer to focus on her health. The K-pop icon was recently diagnosed with acute osteonecrosis in her knee.

On Tuesday, July 15, her agency, SM Entertainment, confirmed that BoA recently sought medical help for severe knee pain. The agency stated, “BoA recently visited the hospital due to severe knee pain and was diagnosed with acute osteonecrosis, which requires surgical treatment.”

SM Entertainment explained, “Based on the medical opinion that strenuous physical activity – including performances such as dancing should be avoided and that surgery should be conducted as soon as possible to prevent the condition from worsening, she has decided to undergo surgery.

The 38-year-old singer had planned to celebrate her 25th anniversary with a special two-day solo concert set for August 30 and 31. However, all performances and related activities have now been called off.

SM explained that her medical team strongly recommended she avoid any strenuous movement or dancing to stop the condition from worsening.

The company asked fans for their understanding, saying the tough decision was made to put BoA’s health first. They also apologized for the sudden news but reassured fans that her new album, which she prepared as a gift for her long-time fans, will be released as planned with no delays.

BoA’s team shared that any future concert dates will depend entirely on how her recovery progresses after surgery. They added that they will announce updates once there’s more clarity on her condition and healing.

This year is especially meaningful for BoA, who has spent over two decades at the top of K-pop. While her August shows were canceled, she had also planned a Japanese tour running from September through November. Unfortunately, her appearance at SMTOWN LIVE Tokyo and the Japan tour is canceled due to the surgery.

For now, BoA plans to focus fully on her treatment so she can return to the stage healthy and stronger than ever.

Meanwhile, BoA is also planning to release her 11th full-length album and a Japanese mini-album in the third quarter of 2025.
