After repeated denials, Kim Soo Hyun and his agency have finally admitted his romantic relationship with Kim Sae Ron, who passed away on February 16.
While the “Queen of Tears” actor was scheduled to release a statement on the recent controversy next week, his agency Gold Medalist released a statement today, Friday, March 14.
The statement reads,
“Early this morning, Kim Soo Hyun showed signs of extreme psychological instability, and we took measures to ensure his absolute stability.
Since the report by Garo Sero Institute (Gaseyeon), Kim Soo Hyun has been experiencing extreme confusion due to claims that he was responsible for the sudden death of the deceased.
Additionally, on the night of March 12, after Gaseyeon’s broadcast, there were cars with cameras parked across from the company entrance and in the parking lot until dawn. On March 13, around lunchtime, people with cameras were seen roaming around the building, continuously applying psychological pressure on Kim Soo Hyun.
Therefore, we are urgently releasing a statement to reveal the truth about the major issues at hand. We ask for your understanding, and although this may not be in line with our initial plans, we prioritize this above all else. Even if there are incomplete parts, we will convey our message.
Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron dated from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, after Kim Sae Ron became an adult. It is not true that Kim Soo Hyun dated Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor.
The photos posted by Kim Sae Ron on her Instagram story on March 24, 2024, and the photos revealed on the Garo Sero Research Institute broadcast on March 11, 2025, were all taken on the same day in winter 2020, when the two were dating.
The clothes Kim Sae Ron wore in the photos were from a brand released in June 2019, making it impossible for the photos to have been taken in 2016, as claimed by Gaseyeon.
Another photo released by Gaseyeon on March 12, 2025, was taken on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019. We have secured the metadata for this photo.
The photos released on March 13 were also taken on the same day, as evident from the same outfit.
All the photos presented by Gaseyeon as evidence that Kim Soo Hyun dated Kim Sae Ron during her minor years were actually taken after Kim Sae Ron became an adult.
Gaseyeon’s repeated claims of a ‘2016 photo’ are impossible, as the two were not dating at that time. Regarding the letter Kim Soo Hyun sent to Kim Saeron during his military service, it was just one of the many letters he wrote to close friends. As seen in the content, Kim Soo Hyun was adjusting to military life and often wrote detailed letters about his daily experiences to friends. The phrase ‘I miss you’ was used in a casual way, as many soldiers do when writing to close acquaintances during their service. However, Gaseyeon distorted the facts by claiming that the two had been dating since 2015. They falsely presented photos taken after Kim Sae Ron became an adult as if they were from her minor years, and they deliberately placed a military-era postcard alongside a later letter to make it appear as if it were a romantic message. Additionally, a nickname that Kim Sae Ron publicly used on social media since 2016 was misleadingly framed as a private term of endearment between the two.
There have been numerous criticisms regarding Kim Soo Hyun’s relationship. While the relationship between two consenting adults is private, Kim Soo-hyun’s life, as a beloved figure, is also subject to public scrutiny. If this scrutiny leads to harsh criticism, it should be accepted sincerely.
However, Gaseyeon’s report continues to spread falsehood and misinformation as though they they were facts. The informant appeared on Gaseyeon’s broadcast claimed to be a family member of Kim Sae Ron. However, according to media reports, they were revealed to be an acquaintance of Kim Sae Ron’s mother.
Using an unverified source whose identity is unclear, Gaseyeon distorted information based on a few manipulated photos, without verifying facts with parties involved.
The private lives of both individuals have been forcibly exposed by others. As a result, not only Kim Soo Hyun but also the late actress’s private matters are being mixed with endless speculation and rumors, and this has resulted in immense pain. Since Gaseyeon publicized their private lives, public opinions on Kim Soo Hyun’s choices cannot be avoided. However, it’s distressing to see that the past relationship of two consenting adults is being distorted and spread through lies. No one should have to endure such suffering due to their private life being exploited in this way. Furthermore, exposing and damaging the reputation of the deceased in this manner is deeply unethical.”
