BTS’ Jungkook Missed Super Bowl Halftime Show Due to Military Service: HYBE Addresses the Situation

Jungkook and Usher

Jungkook’s unavailability for Super Bowl Halftime Show performance due to mandatory military service has sparked a debate among fans and critics.

Usher headlined the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show, which attracted over 129 million viewers.

As per The New Yorker Magazine report on October 7, Usher invited Jungkook as a guest performer at the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show, held in February.

After Jungkook released his album “GOLDEN” in November 2023, the duo dropped a dance duet to the title track “Standing Next To You.”

Since the Super Bowl took place on February 11 and the BTS’ maknae enlisted in the military on December 12, 2023, he rejected the offer to perform at the esteemed stage.

Since the news broke, solo stans and critics are criticizing HYBE’s decision to make him enlist early and miss this great opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl 2024.

On the other hand, ARMYs are praising Jungkook’s decision to enlist with other members to reunite with BTS in mid-2025.

Regarding his absence from the Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance, HYBE told Ilgan Sports, “We have nothing to say.”

The iconic Super Bowl Halftime Show, a staple of American sports and entertainment since 1967, has hosted legendary performers like Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, and Rihanna. However, no K-pop artist has ever performed at the prestigious stage.

Fans are disappointed that Jungkook’s potential performance would have shattered this glass ceiling. They are enraged that HYBE let this great opportunity slip to make him the first K-pop artist to perform at Super Bowl 2024.

According to Korean law, individuals who have contributed significantly to the nation’s prestige in popular culture and arts can delay their military service until age 30. As a renowned K-pop idol, Jungkook, born in 1997, qualified for this exemption. He was eligible for a postponement until 2027.

Fans are furious that HYBE could have delayed his enlistment by a couple of months to accommodate his performance.

Previously, Jungkook made history by signing and performing the 2022 FIFA World Cup Theme song “Dreamer” at the opening ceremony in Qatar.
