BTS Suga’s DUI case is now officially closed after months of intense media scrutiny and public speculation.
Suga aka Min Yoongi has been fined 15 million won (approximately USD 12,000) for driving under the influence (DUI).
The penalty comes after the Haeguem rapper was involved in a drunk driving incident on August 6.
On September 10, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office’s 2nd Criminal Division, led by Chief Prosecutor Chu Hye Yoon, indicted BTS member Suga with a summary indictment, seeking a fine of 15 million won for violating the Road Traffic Act by driving under the influence.
The summary indictment procedural route allows the prosecution to request a penalty without a formal trial, relying solely on written evidence.
Under the Road Traffic Act, drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher face penalties, including license revocation, imprisonment for 1-2 years, or a fine of 5-10 million won.
If the BAC exceeds 0.2%, the penalties intensify, with imprisonment ranging from 2-5 years or a fine of 10-20 million won.
On the night of August 6, Suga was caught by three police officers after losing balance and falling off an e-scooter while intoxicated near his residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. He was subsequently charged with violating the Road Traffic Act, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.227%.
He was summoned by the police for questioning on August 23 and later his DUI case was forwarded to prosecution.
