Coachella 2025: Jennie’s Solo Performance Didn’t Live Up to the Hype; Netizens React

BLACKPINK's Jennie performing at Coachella 2025

The Coachella desert was electric with anticipation as Jennie, the BLACKPINK star, stepped onto the stage for her solo performance. Fans screamed as she kicked off her Coachella 2025 set, a mix of hits from her newly released album “Ruby”.

On Sunday, April 13 (local time), the 29-year-old K-pop star performed at Outdoor Theater, Coachella’s second biggest stage. She made her solo debut at Coachella 2025, having previously performed with BLACKPINK at the festival in 2019. Lisa performed as a solo artist on the opening day of Coachella, Friday, April 11.

Her bandmates Lisa and Rosé supported her by watching her performance and singing along to the songs.

She opened the set with “Filter”, “Mantra”, “Handlebars”, and “Start A War”. In addition, Jennie performed “ZEN”, “F.T.S”, “Damn Right”, “Love Hangover”, “ExtraL”, “like JENNIE”, and more.

She surprised the Coachella crowd with a guest appearance of Kali Uchis, who joined her for the performance of “Damn Right”.

After her electrifying “The Ruby Experience” mini-concert series that wowed crowds in Seoul, LA, New York, and Paris, fans were expecting a similarly thrilling performance from Jennie at Coachella 2025.

However, her performance did not live up to the hype as she looked visibly out of breath within 5 minutes into the set and her performance lacked energy. Many fans believed she underperformed and was capable of delivering more.

Jennie relied heavily on lip-syncing during her Coachella 2025 performance, despite having a track record of stable live vocals. Fans are drawing comparisons to Lisa’s recent Coachella performance, which also received mixed reviews. While Lisa’s dance moves and energy were on point, she also relied on lip sync and loud backtrack.

“I’m a Jennie bias, that’s why I said I feel like I’m being robbed because I know she’s capable of way more than what she showed earlier”

“Jennie please turn that mic on, the lip sync is indefensible”

“Jennie doing lip sync from the start with this loud backtrack”

“For Jennie, the microphone is just a decoration”

“This low effort is getting tired girl what happened to the energy”

“Jennie’s energy is sooo off, the mic is on but she’s like barely singing and that interaction with Kali Uchis was so awkward”

However, not all comments were negative, many praised her for performing the 55-minute set non-stop.

“Jennie did her whole set with little to no outfit changes, ZERO breaks and she still served energy, LIVE vocals, and the insane crowd hyping”

“Jennie really outdid herself because she really fought with stamina and took ZERO breaks”

“That’s a true performer”

Jennie is scheduled to perform next weekend again at Coachella 2025 on April 20 (local time).
