Did BLACKPINK’s Jennie Hint at Alleged Breakup with BTS V in New Song?

BLACKPINK's Jennie and BTS V

Jennie seemingly mentions rumored former flame BTS V in her latest song, or at least, that’s what the fans believe.

The BLACKPINK star released her solo debut studio album “Ruby” on all music platforms on March 7, with “Like JENNIE” as the lead single.

The title track is an intense, hip-hop song, noticeably different from pre-release singles “Mantra”, “ZEN”, and “Love Hangover”.

While it bears some similarity with “ExtraL” featuring Doechii, “Like JENNIE” is empowering and unapologetic. It’s all about Jennie being confident and not caring what anyone thinks.

Coming back to the subject, fans think the “Solo” singer is referencing EXO’s Kai and BTS’ V when she mentions her exes in the song’s opening verse.

The lyrics go

“No, I’m not thinking about no exes / know they miss me /”

V and Jennie, who were rumored to be dating, allegedly broke up in December 2023 according to a report by JTBC. Their break rumors surfaced before his mandatory military enlistment on December 10.

The two were spotted together in Paris and Jeju Island, fueling romance rumors, but their labels never confirmed the relationship. Their agencies also did not comment on the reported breakup.

Meanwhile, Jennie and V are pursuing solo music endeavors as their group activities are on pause. The “Mantra” singer released her album and is currently promoting it in the US. He will hold intimate concerts for fans in LA (March 6-7), New York (March 10), and Korea (March 15).

V, on the other hand, is enlisted in the military and will return to the spotlight on June 10.
