“Exhuma” Tops the Weekend Box Office, Surpassing 2.29 Million Viewers in its First Week

The movie Exhuma directed by Jang Jae-hyun took the top spot at the box office during its first weekend of release.

According to the Youngjin Committee’s integrated movie theater ticket network, Exhuma had a whopping 1,963,554 viewers last weekend ( February 23 to 25). The total number of viewers so far is an impressive 2,299,706.

Exhuma dominated the box office on its release date, February 22, drawing in around 330,000 viewers. It achieved the highest opening score in 2024, surpassing the previous records set by ‘The Wailing’ (310,000) and ‘Seoul Spring’ (200,000). 

The box office frenzy is expected to keep going strong. As of 8:30 am on February 26, the real-time reservation rate is a whopping 40.6%, with over 214,000 tickets sold.

Exhuma is an occult mystery that revolves around strange incidents involving geomancers, undertakers, and shamans who are paid a lot of money to relocate suspicious tombs. This is the third mystery feature from director Jang, who is known as an occult master.

Actors Choi Min Sik, Kim Go Eun, Yoo Hae Jin, and Lee Do Hyun gave an outstanding performance as an ensemble. 

Moving on, Wonka directed by Paul King also had a great run at the box office during the same period. It attracted a total of 279,145 viewers from February 23 to 25, and the overall number of viewers reached an impressive 2,970,347.
