Five Members Renew ZEROBASEONE Activities, Four Set for Solo Paths

ZEROBASEONE

ZEROBASEONE will continue as a five-member group following the departure of four members, including Zhang Hao.

On February 12, WakeOne confirmed that leader Sung Hanbin and members Kim Jiwoong, Seok Matthew, Kim Taerae, and Park Gunwook have agreed to continue group activities together.

The agency said the decision came after “sincere and in-depth discussions” with the members and their respective companies. It added that the five members chose to move forward based on trust and a shared commitment to the team.

WakeOne promised to provide the “fullest support to ensure the activities as the five-member group are carried out in a stable manner.”

Zhang Hao, Ricky, Kim Gyuvin, and Han Yujin will be “moving forward to new beginnings” after the “conclusion of their project period.” All four are under Yuehua Entertainment. WakeOne said it respects their decision and “wishes for their bright future.” The agency also asked fans to “send their constant love and encouragement” for them in their new paths.

ZEROBASEONE debuted in July 2023 through Mnet’s survival program Boys Planet. The group was formed as a 2.5-year project team and was originally set to conclude activities in January 2026. Last December, all nine members agreed to extend their contracts by two months. With that extension, group promotions will now continue through March.

Before the restructuring announcement, Seok Matthew, Kim Taerae, and Park Gunwook had already transferred their exclusive contracts to WakeOne. This move made the transition to a five-member lineup smoother.

The group’s final performance as nine members will take place at the “HERE & NOW ENCORE” concert. The shows are scheduled for March 13 to 15 at KSPO DOME in Seoul. It will mark the last time all nine members stand on stage together as ZEROBASEONE.

WakeOne said the group’s “musical legacy” will continue to “grow and expand in diverse forms and possibilities” despite the lineup change. The agency stated that the legacy created by the nine members will not be “confined to a single chapter in time.”

Industry watchers say Yuehua Entertainment’s usual policy of not renewing project group contracts likely influenced the departure of its four artists. Zhang Hao, who served as the group’s center, is reportedly considering acting opportunities.

ZEROBASEONE has achieved strong commercial success since its debut by releasing six consecutive million-selling albums. The five remaining members now face the task of maintaining that momentum. Fans have shown mixed reactions, with some supporting the new lineup and others focusing on the individual futures of the departing members.
