Former K-pop star and BJ Somyi has taken on a surprising role as the mentor of the new boy group.

The ex-DIA member is set to take on a new role as the producer of her new agency Moden Berry Korea’s upcoming boy group. Interestingly, ah Somyi has already explored a different career path after parting ways with the group as an adult broadcast BJ.

Notably, She is not the first from DIA to venture into production, as fellow former member Jo Yihyun (formerly Cho Seunghee) has previously produced successful groups like BAE173, CLASS:y, and Fantasy Boys.

On April 6, the company stated, “The new boy group is scheduled to launch in 2028, and we are pouring our hearts and souls into casting and training the trainees.”

Somyi and Kim Min Kyu, the heads of Moden Berry Korea’s New Artist Development Department, shared their aspirations, saying, “Creating someone’s debut is a huge responsibility. We don’t just want to create an idol group; we want to create a team that will be loved for a long time.”

On March 27, Ahn Somyi signed with Moden Berry Korea, home to Seungeun from BVNDIT, Girl’s Day’s Jisun, and several K-pop trainees. A day after she signed with the label, she was accused of having a relationship with the former agency’s CEO by Garo Sero Research Institute. The agency vehemently denied reports and announced legal action against individuals spreading misinformation.

However, this is not Ahn’s first brush with controversy as she received a prison sentence of 1.5 years for falsely accusing the CEO of sexual harassment. The CCTV footage submitted to the court showed no signs of distress as Somyi was seen calmly walking around the office and even hugging the CEO. She appealed the court’s decision and her sentence was reduced to two-year probation.

Meanwhile, Ahn Somyi officially left DIA in 2022 and pursued a career as a broadcaster on the adult-rated platform, Panda TV. After signing with the new agency, she plans to engage in various entertainment activities.
