tvN’s cosmic romance drama ‘When the Stars Gossip’ has officially come to an end.

Starring two of Korea’s biggest stars Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin, the drama failed to captivate audiences from the start. It recorded low ratings despite being Korea’s first-ever space drama.

The final episode of “When The Stars Gossip”, which aired on February 24, drew a viewership rating of 2.6%. Viewers bid a tearful farewell to the star-crossed lovers played by Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin.

In the final episode, Eve Kim (Gong Hyo Jin) learns she is pregnant while in space. Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho) requests assistance from ground control to be sent to the space station, and soon they welcome a beautiful baby girl. However, their happiness is short-lived, as Eve tragically passes away just 24 hours after giving birth.  Ryong and the space station crew care for the newborn until they can return to Earth.

The series concludes with Ryong’s emotional goodbye, as he scatters Eve’s ashes in space. His final words are a reminder that every life is a precious miracle.

“When the Stars Gossip” is the first Korean drama that combines space and office themes. With its huge budget of 50 billion won and big-name stars, including Gong Hyo Jin and Lee Min Ho, it was one of the most anticipated shows of the season. They were returning to the television screens after years, therefore, fans were looking forward to their romance. In short, it had all the elements to be a smash hit, however, the reality was a whole lot different.

Viewers were disappointed when they started watching. They had expected a beautiful space story, but it did not live up to their expectations. The setting was hard to relate to, and the message about appreciating life felt forced. Eve’s death made the story feel even more pointless.

“When the Stars Gossip” started with a 3.3% viewership rating, but it quickly lost steam, falling to 1% by episode five. The final episode ended with a disappointing 2% rating. The time slot will now be taken over by the new drama “The Potato Lab”, starring Lee Sun Bin and Kang Tae Oh.
