Here’s When Kim Ji Won’s Upcoming Medical Noir Drama Will Air + Cast Lineup

Kim Ji Won

Fans of Kim Ji Won have been waiting for her next project since “Queen of Tears” ended in April last year. Instead of doing a rom-com, the 33-year-old actress took on a rather challenging role as a doctor.

On November 18, SBS announced the main cast for its new Friday–Saturday drama Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia, a medical noir series. The drama follows Gye Soo Jeong, a doctor who exposes corruption in the medical system using nothing but her own skills. She hunts down unethical doctors and challenges the powerful networks that run the industry from behind the scenes.

The production team confirmed the cast lineup today, which includes a mix of experienced stars and rising talent. Kim Ji Won will lead the series as Gye Soo Jeong, also known as “Doctor X.”

Her character is a top-class surgeon from the Jang Hee Sook Medical Referral Agency and a genius doctor sent to fill a sudden opening at Guseo University Hospital. She has a fierce, almost wild energy in the operating room and is determined to confront the corruption she finds within the hospital.

Kim Ji Won’s casting has drawn a lot of early attention. She has become known for her strong performances in dramas like Queen of Tears, My Liberation Notes, Fight for My Way, and Descendants of the Sun

Lee Jung Eun has been cast as Jang Hee Sook, the director of the medical referral agency where Soo Jeong works. Jang Hee Sook is obsessed with money and appears loud and boastful at first, but she is sharper and more calculating than she seems. Lee Jung Eun has shown her depth in several acclaimed projects, including Parasite, Our Blues, and Light Shop. Viewers are curious to see how she will interpret this role.

Son Hyun Joo will take on the part of Boo Seung Kwon, the director of a branch of Guseo University Hospital. His character is a man trying to rebuild a failing hospital. Son Hyun Joo has long been admired for his powerful acting and has chosen some intense and emotional roles. Son is known for works such as Your Honor, Spring Day, and The Chaser.

Rising actor Kim Woo Seok will play Park Tae Kyung, a wealthy intern whose life at the hospital becomes complicated after he meets Gye Soo Jeong (Kim Ji Won). He is the only son of a family that runs a large hospital in the countryside and is known for being warm and caring.

Kim Woo Seok has already shown his range in The Marriage Forbidden, Rookie Cops, and Military Prosecutor Doberman. Many are looking forward to seeing the chemistry he creates with Kim Ji Won.

Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia is set to air on SBS every Friday and Saturday sometime in 2026.
