Hwang Minhyun has confirmed his return as Yoon Ga Min in season 2 of TVING’s hit original series Study Group. The new season is set to begin filming soon and will be his first acting project since completing his mandatory military service in December last year.
Study Group season 2 has now entered full production. Hwang Minhyun will once again lead the series, reprising his role as Yoon Ga Min, the determined student who fights to protect his friends while struggling to achieve his academic dreams.
This season will follow Ga-min and his friends as their bond grows stronger. In the follow-up season, they face a much larger and more dangerous evil force threatening students across South Korea.
The production team shared that season 2 will show new sides of the character, Yoon Ga Min. Viewers will learn more about the hidden reasons behind Ga Min’s intense desire to study well and the personal conflicts he faces.
Hwang Minhyun’s comeback is exciting news for fans because Study Group season 1 was a major global success and he played a key role in its popularity. The drama sparked the “K-high school action” trend and grabbed attention both domestically and overseas. It entered the weekly Top 5 rankings in 147 countries, including the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and France, on global platforms such as Viki.
In South Korea, the series more than doubled TVING’s paid subscribers and viewing numbers in its first week and ranked first on the platform for five consecutive weeks.
The drama also received critical acclaim and ranked seventh on Time magazine’s list of the Top 10 Best K-Dramas of 2025. In addition, it won the Best Streaming Original Drama award at the 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards.
Although he filmed the first season, he enlisted in the military shortly afterward and was unable to take part in any promotions when the show was released. Choosing Study Group season 2 as his first project after discharge allows him to properly reconnect with viewers.
