Jennie Kim Talks About her Acting Debut in ‘The Idol’ on Dua Lipa Podcast

Jennie on The idol

Jennie Kim, the K-pop idol and member of the group BLACKPINK, recently appeared on the Dua Lipa podcast. Here, Jennie opened up about her acting debut in HBO’s controversial series, The Idol. In addition, she talked about how being a K-pop star restricts her to fully expressing herself. Moreover, conversations related to Coachella and her rap career were also part of the candid podcast.

Jennie, who has appeared in several music videos and commercials, is no stranger to the world of acting. However, she admitted that acting was something she always wanted to ‘explore’. She went on to share her experience with The Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp.

In the HBO series, The Idol, Jennie plays a backup dancer to a pop star. Due to Jennie’s popularity, the scene of her dance rehearsal in the show garnered more views than the show’s first episode. However, her fans did not like her role in the controversial series and criticized her heavily for it.

She recently appeared on BBC Sounds “Dua Lipa: At Your Service” Podcast. In her first podcast interview, she shared about her acting gig stating that she was never going to do any acting role that was offered to her. She is particular about her work and wanted her first acting job to be authentic. That’s why she waited long before saying yes to an acting project.

She further added that she spent some time in LA last year and got to meet Sam in person and got to talk to him. And he talked her through the role that he envisioned for Jennie and everything – it moved her heart and compelled her to join the cast of The Idol.

Many Korean media outlets reported that she got the role without any help from her agency, YG Entertainment. It is true as Jennie was offered the role on the series via a text by the director Sam Levinson.

About bagging her acting role, Jennie revealed that “It happened so casually, without anticipating the actual job. So it felt really authentic and real”. She added that it moved her, and gave her the courage to believe that it was the right thing to do.

Launching her acting career with an HBO series is surely a high-profile way of venturing into the acting world. In addition to performing in The Idol, she also collaborated with The Weeknd and released the song ‘One of the Girls’.

Despite the challenges, hopefully, Jennie will continue to pursue her acting career. Her willingness to take risks and explore new opportunities is an inspiration to her fans all over the world. We can’t wait to see what she does next in the acting arena!
