Jun Hyosung, the talented K-pop idol and actress, is gearing up for her next big role! 

According to a report by OSEN on August 1, Hyosung is in talks to star in a movie based on the shocking ‘2022 Busan Roundhouse Kick Incident’ that took the internet by storm.

The highly publicized ‘Busan Roundhouse Kick Incident’ is being adapted into a film, No Choice but to Be the Devil, directed by Lim Yong Jae and produced by FIREFLY. 

It is reported that the Celebrity actress was interested in the leading role after reading the script. With pre-production nearly complete, filming is scheduled to begin this month.

In May 2022, a shocking incident occurred in Busan, where a man (Mr. A) brutally assaulted a woman (Ms. B) with a roundhouse kick in an officetel entrance. The attack, caught on CCTV, sparked widespread outrage. Mr. A was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder, but the sentence was later increased to 20 years after an appeal trial added attempted rape charges. 

Despite his imprisonment, Mr. A showed no remorse and threatened retaliation against Ms. B. The case also raised concerns about the police’s handling of the investigation, leading to a lawsuit filed by Ms. B against the state for mental damage. The first trial date recently took place, with a heated argument between the parties involved.

The film No Choice but to Be the Devil explores the Busan roundhouse kick incident and its wider social implications, including random attacks and revenge in Korean society. 

After making acting debut in 2012, Jun Hyosung has appeared in several dramas including Delivery Man, My Dear Cat, Memoriat, My Shy Boss, and more.

The real-life victim, Kim Jin Joo will advise on the script, sharing her personal experience . As a newly published author on the struggles of crime victims, Kim Jin Joo will work with the director and production team to ensure a thoughtful and accurate portrayal. 

Filming starts in mid-August, with a planned 2025 release.
