Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook to Start Filming “Human X Gumiho” Next Spring

Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook

Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook, are gearing up to reunite onscreen for the fantasy drama Human X Gumiho. The drama was reported by Kmedia outlets months ago, and there has been no updates up until now.

The leading cast is occupied with their massively successful projects of late. Jun made her Kdrama comeback after four years with the Disney+ spy thriller Tempest, which may return for a second season. Ji Chang Wook, on the other hand, recently appeared in multiple dramas (Queen Woo and Gangnam B-side) and a movie (Revolver).

Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook Will Begin Filming Next Year

Production for Human X Gumiho is expected to officially kick off in March 2026. JTBC, Coupang Play, and Amazon Prime Video are currently the most likely platforms to air and stream the series. If the filming timeline is correct, the drama will likely hit screens in mid to late 2027.

As reported by TenAsia on October 21, both actors are “strongly considered” for the lead roles, and their casting is now viewed as virtually confirmed.

Human X Gumiho Production Team

Human X Gumiho will be co-produced by HighZium Studio (Doctor Slump and Hellbound 2) and Content Planner. The script comes from Im Me Ah Ri, best known for writing The Beauty Inside and Doom at Your Service, both of which were praised for their heartfelt writing and fantasy-romance tone.

If everything proceeds as planned, JTBC will serve as the main broadcaster, Coupang Play will handle domestic streaming, and Amazon Prime Video will distribute the show globally. Since Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook are known globally, the drama will be released on a major streaming platform.

What to Expect from Human X Gumiho

While story details remain tightly under wraps, the title gives a big clue. The drama will likely explore the intersection of human and supernatural worlds, focusing on a mysterious gumiho, or nine-tailed fox, a well-known figure in Korean folklore.

Jun Ji-hyun is no stranger to the genre; her iconic role in My Love from the Star helped redefine fantasy dramas in Korea. In the drama, she plays a human who falls in love with an alien. Ji Chang-wook, meanwhile, has shown his versatility in dramas like Healer, Suspicious Partner, and The Sound of Magic.

Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook’s Reunion After “Colony”

Interestingly, Human X Gumiho will be Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook’s second project together. The two previously filmed Yeon Sang Ho’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Colony, which began shooting earlier this year and is currently in post-production.

Both actors have also had busy individual schedules. Jun Ji-hyun recently led the Disney+ series Tempest, playing a former UN ambassador caught in an international conspiracy. She is also set to appear in Yeon Sang Ho’s film Colony. She is also in taks to share the screen with Squid Game actor Lee Byung Hun in koread adaptation of The Americans. Meanwhile, Ji Chang-wook has lined up The Manipulated, premiering later this year, and Scandal, a drama planned for 2026, plus his role alongside Jun Ji Hyun in Colony.

If finalized, Human X Gumiho will bring together one of the most glamorous pairings in K-drama history. With filming scheduled for March 2026, fans can expect more casting news and official teasers in the coming months.
