Kim Jae Young and SNSD’s Sooyoung Considered for New Romantic Comedy

Kim Jae Young and Sooyoung

Kim Jae Young and Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung are in talks to star together in a new romantic comedy series.

On February 27, Daily Sports exclusively reported that Sooyoung was tapped as the female lead in the new rom-com “Idol Kid”. Another report from Star News reported today that “The Judge From Hell” actor Kim Jae Young is cast in ENA’s upcoming romantic comedy.

“Idol Kid” is a gripping romantic comedy drama with elements of suspense and mystery. The story revolves around a top star lawyer with a devoted 15-year fanbase and an idol who ironically despises die-hard fans the most.

In the drama, Choi Sooyoung stars as Mae Myung Na, a determined criminal lawyer. Her character becomes embroiled in a high-profile case when her favorite idol, Doraik (played by Kim Jae-young), is accused of murder.

As she digs deeper into the case, she gets to know the real Doraik and, along the way, figures out what she truly wants in life and love.

The Girls’ Generation star is known for her appearance in many hit dramas such as “So I Married an Anti-Fan”, “If You Wish Upon Me”, “Not Other”, and more. Additionally, she is set to star opposite Gong Myung in the new drama “Please Don’t Drink”, scheduled to release this year.

Kim Jae Young plays Doraik, a talented artist who overcame a tough childhood to become a K-pop idol. Born to an unknown father and a cabaret singer mother, Doraik had to sing at the cabaret to support his family. His life took a dramatic turn when he was discovered by an entertainment CEO and debuted as a member of the popular boy group Guardians.

With his stunning looks and impressive skills, Doraik quickly became a fan favorite. However, his world is turned upside down when his friend and group leader is found dead, and he becomes the prime suspect. He is now determined to clear his name and sets out to uncover the truth.

Kim Jae Young has always dreamed of starring in romantic comedies. In fact, after wrapping up SBS’s “The Judge from Hell” last November, he mentioned in an interview that he is eager to take on a rom-com next.

The 36-year-old actor previously ventured into romantic comedy with tvN’s “Love in Contract” in 2022 in a supporting role. Now, with “Idol Kid”, he is taking on his first lead role in a romantic comedy.

Lee Gwang Young, who has directed shows like “Judge vs. Judge”, “The Secret Life of My Secretary”, and “Call It Love”, is on board to direct “Idol Kid”.

Filming for “Idol Kid” is set to commence once the casting process is complete.
