Kim Jae Young has been confirmed as the villain in the upcoming fifth installment of the hit Korean action film series, “The Roundup,” also known as “The Outlaws.”
On January 12, 2026, his agency, Management S, announced that the 37-year-old actor will take on the antagonist role. He will join a prestigious lineup of actors who have previously played villains in the franchise. The lineup includes Yoon Kye Sang, Son Suk Ku, Lee Jun Hyuk, and Kim Moo Yeol. Fans are already excited to see the tension and intensity Kim will bring to the screen.
Kim Jae Young started his career as a model in 2011 and gradually transitioned into acting. Over the years, he has appeared in popular shows like “100 Days My Prince,” “Love in Contract,” “The Judge from Hell,” and more recently, “IDOL I,” which is currently airing on ENA and Netflix.
His casting in “The Roundup 5” is a major step, as the franchise has a history of turning its villain roles into stars.
“The Roundup” series, starring Ma Dong Seok as the heroic Detective Ma Seok Do, has become a cultural phenomenon in South Korea. The first film, released in 2017, drew 6.88 million viewers.
Its sequel in 2022 became the highest-grossing Korean film of the year, reaching 12.69 million admissions. The third and fourth installments followed with 10.68 million and 11.5 million viewers, respectively. This series is the first in Korean film history to achieve three consecutive movies surpassing 10 million moviegoers.
The franchise is famous for its intense action, gripping stories, and memorable characters.
“The Roundup” villains have always been as memorable as the hero. Yoon Kye Sang’s performance as Jang Chen in the second film became legendary. Son Suk Ku also rose to fame with his role, and actors Lee Jun Hyuk and Kim Moo Yeol received significant attention for their performances.
Kim Jae-young now faces the challenge of stepping into these shoes and bringing his own energy to the franchise.
“The Roundup 5” is currently in pre-production, with principal photography expected to begin sometime in 2026. The film will continue to follow Detective Ma Seok Do as he confronts modern criminal organizations.
The fifth installment is scheduled for theatrical release in 2027; no exact timeline is yet revealed.
