Former TVXQ member and musical actor Kim Junsu revealed that he was blackmailed by a female streamer (BJ) on Afreeca TV.
The BJ, whom Junsu met five years ago, secretly recorded their conversations and used the audio files to extort money from him. She blackmailed him about 101 times from September 2020 to October 2024 and demanded funds to support her drug habit.
The total amount stolen from the 37-year-old K-pop star exceeds 800 million won (approximately USD 573,000).
Police investigations revealed that BJ secretly recorded conversations and audio files with Kim after meeting him in 2019. She allegedly used these recordings to blackmail him and threatened to release them on social media unless she received payment.
According to authorities, her motive for extortion was to fund their drug habit. Furthermore, she is currently facing trial at the Seoul Central District Court for separate drug-related charges
On November 15, his agency, Palm Tree Island, announced through a statement that BJ threatened to distribute their recording on social media, stating, “Even if a single false article comes out about a celebrity, their image can be damaged, and Kim Junsu would not be able to recover his image.”
They revealed that this was the beginning of ongoing threats and she continued to take advantage of his celebrity status.
Palm Tree Island stated that he has taken legal action against the perpetrator to protect not only himself but also numerous other victims of extortion and threats.
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency applied for an arrest warrant for the female BJ on November 13 on charges of extortion under the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes Act.
