After years, fans of Lee Jong Suk will finally get to see him in his element once again. The 36-year-old actor is returning to the romance genre with upcoming projects.

On February 23, Sports Donga reported that Lee Jong Suk is approached for the lead role in the popular webtoon adaptation, Iseop’s Romance

Iseop’s Romance tells the story of Tae Yi Seop, a third-generation chaebol heir who seems perfect at everything, except love. He is confident, capable, and hates nothing. That changes when he reunites with Kang Min Kyung, a perfect woman known as TK Group’s secret weapon.

Their history goes back to their early days as new employees, when Kang Min Kyung bruised Tae Yi Seop’s ego by outperforming him during training. A decade later, she reappears in his life—this time as his secretary.

The drama originates from a web novel of the same name by Kim Eon Hee, “Iseop’s Romance.” It enjoyed a successful run as a webtoon and is now being reborn as a live-action drama.

Lee Jong Suk will take on the role of Tae Yi-seop. If confirmed, this project will be his first lead role in a pure romance drama in nearly seven years since Romance Is a Bonus Book. Although his recent work Law and The City included romantic elements, it leaned more toward courtroom drama and coming-of-age themes.

Over the past few years, Lee Jong Suk has explored a range of genres. The “Big Mouth” actor challenged himself with more intense and layered roles. With Iseop’s Romance, he returns to the romance genre.

Several actresses are currently in discussions for the female lead role of Kang Min Kyung, though no official casting has been confirmed.

Production will be handled by Ace Factory, the studio behind well-known dramas such as Confession, Stranger 2, Dongjae, and the Good or the Bastard.

Before Iseop’s Romance premieres, Lee Jong Suk will appear in historical romance The Remarried Empress, set to stream on Disney+ later this year. The drama also stars Ju Ji Hoon, Shin Min Ah, and Lee Se Young.
