The highly anticipated tvN drama “When The Stars Gossip” has hit a roadblock in its ratings journey. Despite its promising premise and talented cast, the show’s viewership numbers have been on a steady decline since its premiere on January 4.
The latest episode, which aired on January 18, recorded a nationwide rating of 1.8%, which is a significant drop from its previous episode.
Korea’s first-ever space drama, ‘When The Stars Gossip,’ was produced with a budget of 50 billion Won. However, it has failed to gain traction, if anything, this cosmic romance is losing more viewers with each episode.
Nielsen Korea reported that the 5th episode of the tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama garnered a nationwide viewership rating of 1.8%. This marks a 1.0% decline from the previous episode’s 2.8% rating. Since its premiere on January 4 with a 3.3% rating, “When The Stars Gossip” has consistently seen its ratings slide downward.
It is a big-budget space drama that tells the story of Eve, a charismatic leader on a zero-gravity space station, and her unexpected encounter with a tourist on a secret mission.
With a production budget of 50 billion won and a five-year preparation period, this long-awaited series features a star-studded cast, including Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin.
The drama was predicted to be a huge success since Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin were returning to the TV screen after a long time. While Lee was occupied with the OTT series “Pachinko”, this is his first-ever domestic drama in five years since “The King: Eternal Monarch” in 2020.
Moreover, Gong Hyo Jin appeared in a Kdrama after 6 years since her appearance in “When The Camellia Blooms” (2019).
Despite featuring Korea’s biggest star, the drama is not getting enough attention from viewers and many are leaving mid-way.
Meanwhile, catch the 6th episode of “When The Stars Gossip” on tvN, Netflix, and TVING today at 9:20 PM KST.
