‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Release Date, Storyline, Cast, Spoilers, and More

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt on the set of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

The long-awaited The Devil Wears Prada sequel is finally on its way — and it is bringing back the iconic original cast. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all set to reunite, along with director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. Producer Karen Rosenfeld is also returning, which means the full original team back together, and expectations couldn’t be higher.

The first film, released in 2006, followed Andrea (played by Hathaway), a young journalist who lands a job at the prestigious fashion magazine Runway. She finds herself working under the terrifying but brilliant editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Streep). The movie became a worldwide hit, grossing over $326 million — more than ten times its budget.

Meryl Streep went on to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her performance. Anne Hathaway, meanwhile, became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about rising stars.

Hathaway has often said in interviews that she’d love to work with Streep again, and now that wish is coming true.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Release Date

Fans of The Devil Wears Prada can finally rejoice — the long-awaited sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is officially on the way. The original creative team and main cast are reuniting, and the film is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.

Development and Production

The idea for a sequel has been floating around for over a decade, ever since Lauren Weisberger released her 2013 follow-up novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. For years, though, a movie adaptation seemed unlikely; even Meryl Streep said she wasn’t interested in returning.

That changed in July last year, when Disney officially confirmed its interest in a sequel and began talks with the original cast. Once development began, things moved quickly.

Filming started on June 30, 2025, and took place in several locations, including the streets of New York City, Newark Airport, and Milan, Italy. In a fun real-life crossover, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci were spotted filming at the Dolce & Gabbana Milan Fashion Week show. After an intense few months, production wrapped on October 20, 2025.

The film reunites the original creative team: director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Wendy Finerman.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Plot

While Disney hasn’t released an official synopsis yet, reports from Variety and Puck hint at the story’s direction.

Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) remains at the top of Runway magazine, but the print world is struggling. The traditional media is facing a crisis, and Miranda must rely on the power — and money — of major luxury conglomerates to keep her empire alive.

Enter Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt). Once Miranda’s stressed assistant, Emily is now a confident executive at Christian Dior, part of a massive LVMH-like fashion group. In a clever twist, Emily is no longer the underling — she is a powerful rival. Reports say she teams up with her billionaire boyfriend (loosely inspired by Jeff Bezos) in a possible attempt to buy Runway itself.

As for Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), her return is confirmed through set photos showing her back at the Runway offices. It is a full-circle moment after she famously quit in the first film. Her exact role, however, remains a mystery. A viral TikTok also showed references to a new publication called Adore, which hints that the media landscape in the story has evolved.

Cast Lineup

The sequel features a mix of beloved returning actors and exciting new additions.

The iconic trio — Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt — are all back, joined by Stanley Tucci’s fan-favorite Nigel. Supporting actors Tracie Thoms (Lily) and Tibor Feldman (Irv Ravitz) also reprise their roles.

One character who won’t return is Nate, Andy’s boyfriend from the original film, played by Adrian Grenier. Fans may not be too disappointed, as his character has long been joked about as “the real villain” of the first movie.

Newcomers bring even more star power. Kenneth Branagh joins as Miranda’s husband, while Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, and Lady Gaga have all been cast in new roles. Fashion icon Donatella Versace is also confirmed to make a cameo appearance.

The Devil Wears Prada Sequel Spoilers

Because much of the movie was filmed on location in New York City, fans and paparazzi have shared plenty of behind-the-scenes glimpses.

Photos show Anne Hathaway holding a Runway garment bag, confirming Andy is back at the magazine in some capacity. Hathaway and Stanley Tucci were seen filming in Central Park wearing black outfits, which hints at a possible funeral scene.

Viral clips show Miranda, Andy, and Nigel together outside a sleek new office building, suggesting they may once again be working side by side.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 seems to deliver everything fans have hoped for — sharp fashion, sharper wit, and plenty of drama. Or, as Miranda Priestly herself might say… that’s all.
