Minnie from i-dle has landed the lead role in Thailand’s adaptation of the Hollywood romantic comedy 50 First Dates. With this, the Thai rapper will make her big-screen debut in a high-profile international project. The film is a joint production between Sony Pictures International Productions and Thailand’s GDH, and shooting is scheduled to begin in October.
In the 50 First Dates Thai version, Minnie will take on the Drew Barrymore role, a woman who lives with short-term memory loss, while Thai star Nadech Kugimiya will play the Adam Sandler counterpart, the man who falls in love with her and must win her heart anew each day.
Nadech is a leading actor and model in Thailand, known for hits including the Thai adaptation of My Love from Other Star and last year’s box-office success Death Whisperer 2.
The remake will be directed and produced by Mez (Mes) Tharathorn, with a screenplay co-written by Thodsapol (or Thodsaporn) Thipthinnakorn and Benjamaporn Srabua.
Producers say the new take will refresh the original story while keeping its emotional core, adapting the premise to fit Thai cultural tones and GDH’s production style. Pre-production is reportedly well underway.
For Minnie, this is a major acting step. She first acted in the 2021 Netflix sitcom So Not Worth It, and has since expanded her public profile through music and screen work.
It has been a monumental year for the 27-year-old K-pop star as she made her solo debut with the album HER, in January, and now her big-screen debut is announced.
Production details released so far place filming start in October, with GDH and Sony handling distribution plans regionally and internationally.
Meanwhile, i-dle (formerly (G)I-DLE) remains active musically. The group is scheduled to perform at Japan’s Summer Sonic festival on August 16–17.
Fans can expect official production updates, including casting confirmations, trailers, and release timing, as pre-production moves into principal photography later this year.
