Choi Hyun Wook is eyeing his next project.
The up-and-coming actor is currently in discussions to headline a brand-new drama, where he would take on the relatable role of a university student.
Choi Hyun Wook is currently starring in tvN’s “My Dearest Nemesis” alongside Mun Ka Young. While the drama is set to conclude on March 25, he is already considered for the lead role in a new drama “The Boy In The Last Row”.
On March 4, My Daily exclusively reported that Choi Hyun Wook was chosen as the lead for new drama “The Boy In The Last Row”.
An insider told My Daily, “Among many candidates, Choi Hyun Wook was finally selected as the main character.” They added, “Although he has been involved in some controversies lately, he has a stable acting ability that perfectly matches the character, which led to his final selection.”
For those unversed, the 23-year-old actor was embroiled in controversy for accidentally sharing a photo with private parts exposed last year. In addition, he has been under fire since 2023 for his off-screen behavior. He was photographed visiting a club and littering cigarette butts. As controversy swirled during the airing of “Twinkling Watermelon”, he took to social media to share a handwritten apology.
Based on the Spanish play by Juan Mayorga of the same name, ‘The Boy in the Last Row’ tells the story of Mun O, a Korean literature professor, who becomes fascinated by the writing talent of Lee Kang, a student who sits in the back of the classroom. As Mun O delves deeper into Lee Kang’s work, he remembers his own forgotten dreams and desires.
In the upcoming drama, Choi Hyun Wook will take on the role of Lee Kang, a bright student in the Department of Korean Literature at an elite university. Meanwhile, acclaimed actor Choi Min Sik is expected to play the lead role of Mun O, a respected professor of Korean Literature who mentors Lee Kang.
Choi Hyun Wook entered the acting world in 2019 and has since appeared in many hit shows. His notable credits include “High Cookie”, “Weak Hero Class 1”, “D.P.”, “Twinkling Watermelon”, and more.
‘The Boy in the Last Row’ is helmed by director Kim Kyu Tae, known for his work on ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’, ‘Our Blues’, and ‘The Trunk’, and penned by writer Jang Myung Woo.
Kakao Entertainment and GTIST are set to co-produce ‘The Boy in the Last Row’. The filming is slated to start in 2025.
