Netflix is implementing stricter policies on account sharing in South Korea. This means that the days of freely sharing your Netflix account with friends and family might be coming to an end.

On November 2, Netflix made an announcement stating that they will be sending emails to Netflix members in South Korea who share their accounts with individuals outside of their household. This means that sharing accounts with non-household members may no longer be allowed.

This step is part of Netflix’s efforts to enforce its terms of service and maintain fair usage of its platform. 

So, if you’ve been sharing your Netflix account with friends or family who are not part of your household, it’s a good idea to consider getting separate accounts to continue enjoying Netflix’s wide range of content. 

Moreover, the streaming platform stated that users who reside in the same household are allowed to use Netflix without any restrictions on their location.

It uses information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to verify this, in line with its privacy policy. Based on this, it is likely that Netflix will confirm if users sharing an account are indeed living in the same household.

Netflix has clarified that they will not immediately charge additional fees for account sharing, but they will be implementing these changes gradually. As of now, they have not announced the specific number of additional members they will allow.

Starting in February, Netflix began implementing account-sharing restrictions in certain countries, including Canada, New Zealand, and Spain. Since then, they have expanded these restrictions to other countries as well.

These measures are part of Netflix’s efforts to ensure fair usage and protect their content.
