Netizens can not seem to keep track of the latest developments in BTS SUGA’s drunk driving controversy.
On August 13, a week later since the incident, Yonhap News revealed new CCTV footage, where the rider is seen collapsing on the sidewalk. While the rider in the footage was presumed to be SUGA, he received massive criticism for lying about collapsing outside his home.
New evidence reveals that the individual seen riding an electric scooter on the road in a recently broadcast video was misidentified as SUGA. In fact, the person in the footage was traveling in the opposite direction of SUGA’s location at the time.
In the new footage revealed by DongA Ilbo, he is seen falling in front of his residence and being approached by three police officers. Despite being drunk, he is seen driving carefully and slowly.
On the night of August 6, around 11:10 PM, SUGA lost his balance and fell while making a left turn near the entrance of Nine One Hannam in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. As he was getting up and putting his helmet back on, three nearby riot police officers approached him and offered assistance.
During the interaction, they suspected he had been drinking and administered a breathalyzer test. The results showed his blood alcohol level was 0.227%, a level high enough to warrant license revocation.
According to the police, the Haegeum rapper spent the evening of August 6 drinking with acquaintances at a restaurant near Hannam Intersection, then moved to his nearby personal studio for more drinks.
Around 11 p.m., he rode an electric scooter from the studio back to his home, just 500 meters away from Nine One Hannam.
The police revealed on August 11 that they will be summoning SUGA for a formal investigation into the drinking incident, and are currently working to schedule a date for his questioning.
While the drunk driving incident may not have any impact on his military service, SUGA will likely face the same legal consequences as drunk driving a car since his electric scooter did not qualify as PM.
