NewJeans Reveals Their New Group Name NJZ After Parting Ways with ADOR

NewJeans introduces new name NJZ through official teaser

NewJeans have finally chosen a new, temporary activity name NJZ till the ongoing dispute with ADOR settles.

The 5-member K-pop group has been using the name “NewJeans” since announcing contract termination on November 28, 2024 at a press conference. At the press briefing, they mentioned that they would not give up on the name “NewJeans” as it signifies their identity and represents their journey.

The K-pop group is currently facing two lawsuits with their label, ADOR, regarding the validity of their exclusive contract and an injunction against external ad deals. As they introduce their new name, NJZ, it remains unclear how they will fight for the trademark rights of “NewJeans” or give up on this pursuit.

On February 7, the fashion and culture festival ComplexCon took to social media to announce the group’s new name, NJZ, and hinted at a thrilling 2025 ahead.

NewJeans, now rebranded as NJZ, tagged the festival’s account in their social media story. The group also shared a promotional poster announcing their upcoming appearance at ComplexCon Hong Kong in March. This is their first official announcement after completing scheduled activities with ADOR in early January.

They made headlines last November when they held an emergency press conference to announce their departure from ADOR, effectively ending their exclusive contract. Following this move, the group launched a new social media account and invited fans to contribute suggestions for their new stage name.

They have appointed a law firm, which also represents former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin, to represent them in court. In addition, their parents have also joined Instagram temporarily to share their stance on the whole situation.

A court hearing is set for March 7 to hear the label’s plea on preventing NewJeans members from signing independent advertising contracts. In addition, a separate trial to validate their exclusive contract with ADOR is scheduled for April 3.
