Park Seo-Joon has made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film The Marvels. While many fans were excited, some ended up feeling let down.
In The Marvels, Park Seo Joon joins the cast as Jan, Captain Marvel’s husband and prince of the musical planet Aladra. He is the third Korean actor to appear in a Marvel film, following Su-hyun in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Ma Dong-seok in Eternals (2021).
Before ‘The Marvels’ was released, there was much speculation about Park Seo-Joon’s role and screen time. However, as the release date approached, it became apparent that his role might not be extensive.
During a recent video press conference, director Nia DaCosta acknowledged that although his part is short, it carries a significant impact and plays an important role in the film.
It’s a bit disappointing that there aren’t many chances to see Park Seo-Joon’s acting in ‘The Marvels.’ His appearance is quite brief, lasting only about two to three minutes. It’s almost like a cameo role. The focus of the movie is mainly on the three main characters and their battles.
Jan’s character in ‘The Marvels’ doesn’t seem to play a major role in the overall plot development. He’s just a prince from a planet that sets the stage for the battle.
Some Korean audiences may perceive Park Seo-Joon’s appearance in ‘The Marvels’ as resembling a somewhat comical cosplay. However, fans are appreciative of Park Seo-Joon for embracing this new challenge, even though his initial foray into Hollywood may have left some with a sense of regret.
