Ra Mi Ran is expected to stay busy this year with a new film project. The veteran actress, along with Go Kyung Pyo, is currently in discussions to star in the upcoming movie “The Drug Rice Cake Shop” (working title), directed by Kim Kyung Yoon.
According to reports on January 16, Ra Mi Ran and Go Kyung Pyo have been offered the lead roles in the film. If confirmed, this will mark another major big-screen project for both actors.
“The Drug Rice Cake Shop” is a Korean remake of the French film “Paulette.” The original tells the story of an elderly former baker who struggles to live on her pension. After accidentally discovering drugs, she enters the drug trade to survive.
The film became known for its dark comedy and its focus on elderly characters living on the edge of society.
The Korean version keeps the core idea but adapts it to a local setting by replacing the bakery with a traditional rice cake shop.
Ra Mi Ran has been offered the role of Ahn Bok Ja, the owner of a rice cake shop. The 50-year-old actress began her career in supporting and minor roles. She later established herself as a leading actress thanks to her strong comedic sense and believable acting.
She starred in the hit films “Honest Candidate,” “The Highway Family,” and “Miss & Mrs. Cops.” In 2024, she led the crime comedy “Citizen of a Kind” with Gong Myung.
Last year, she showed her wide acting range by playing a Yakult fairy with supernatural powers in the film “Hi-Five.” She also portrayed a strong and independent woman in MBC’s drama “To the Moon.”
Opposite her, Go Kyung Pyo is also being considered for a major role in the film. According to reports, he has been offered the role of Woo Ho Jae, a man in his 30s who becomes entangled in a drug-related case.
His agency, CLN Company, confirmed that he has received the offer and is currently reviewing it. Go previously impressed audiences in films such as “Seoul Vibe,” “Decision to Leave,” and “Haruki Urakai.” He will appear in the tvN drama “Undercover Miss Hong,” which premieres on January 17, 2026. The drama is set in the 1990s and follows an elite securities supervisor who goes undercover as a young office employee.
“The Drug Rice Cake Shop” will be directed by Kim Kyung Yoon, a graduate of the Korea National University of Arts. This project will mark his feature-length film debut.
After finalizing the main cast, the production plans to begin filming in late February, with shooting expected to continue through early May. The film is scheduled to enter full-scale production in early 2026.
