After contributing to the construction of learning centers and supporting various educational initiatives, K-pop group SEVENTEEN has been appointed as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Youth.

The group will be attending the appointment event happening at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France on June 26.

On June 11, PLEDIS Entertainment announced that SEVENTEEN has been chosen as the first K-pop artist to serve as an official goodwill ambassador for UNESCO. This marks the first time UNESCO has appointed a youth goodwill ambassador.

They mentioned that the international community has acknowledged the impact of SEVENTEEN members who have consistently shared their personal growth stories through music since their debut in 2015.

The group is also scheduled to meet UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to discuss future plans.

Since last year, SEVENTEEN has engaged in different projects with UNESCO. Together, they’ve collaborated on the #GoingTogether campaign to advocate for the importance of education.

Since the campaign’s launch in August 2022, they’ve contributed significantly by helping with the construction of two regional learning centers in East Timor and aiding education efforts in Malawi.

In November 2023, they participated in the 13th ‘UNESCO Youth Forum’ hosted at the UNESCO headquarters, where they engaged with youth delegates from more than 170 nations.
