SEVENTEEN’s Jun is stepping into another major film role, and this time, he is taking the lead.
Jun, whose real name is Wen Junhui, will lead the upcoming Chinese crime-action film Go for Broke 2, directed by Ma Yuke. Chinese crime-action film Go for Broke 2 hits theaters across China on October 3. The 30-year-old K-pop star will play Su Cheng, a man who has spent years drifting from place to place in search of his missing younger brother.
He will share the screen with Hong Kong cinema legend Sammo Hung, Tony Leung, and character actor Bai Ke.
Just last month, Jun was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Hundred Flowers Awards, one of China’s most prestigious film honors. The nomination was for his role as Hu Feng in The Shadow’s Edge, the Jackie Chan-led crime thriller that came out last year. He attended the nomination ceremony in early August, where he also performed.
He walked the red carpet at the 13th Silk Road International Film Festival in Xi’an on September 19 and 20 as an overseas promotional ambassador.
Jun started acting when he was two years old, doing commercials and television in China before he ever set foot in a K-pop practice room. He won a Best New Performer award from the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild back in 2007 for The Pye Dog, and played a young Ip Man in the 2010 martial arts prequel The Legend Is Born: Ip Man.
He returned to Chinese dramas in 2023 with the romance Exclusive Fairytale, and has another film, Summer Never Ends, already lined up.
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN is currently in a group hiatus as several members fulfill their mandatory military service. Vernon, DK, Mingyu, Seungkwan, and Dino are all enlisted or preparing to be. As one of the group’s Chinese members, Jun is not subject to that requirement. This leaves him free to build out his filmography on the mainland while his bandmates are away.
Of course, acting is only one part of Jun’s career. He continues to work as a member of SEVENTEEN while maintaining his own musical activities. In June, he released the solo single “Gentle Glow.”
