Choi Sooyoung and Kim Jae Young will lead the upcoming Genie TV original drama Idol Eye, confirmed to air in the second half of 2025. The two actors are working together for the first time in this courtroom romance with a mystery twist.
Directed by Lee Kwang Young (Call It Love, The Secret Life of Secretary) and written by Kim Da Rin. The series will be produced by A Story, the studio behind Big Mouth, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and Signal.
Idol Eye follows Maeng Se Na (played by Choi Sooyoung), a sharp defense lawyer known for handling cases no one else will take. She is often called “the villains’ lawyer” for her history of defending unpopular clients.
What no one knows is that Se Na is also a longtime fan of the idol group Goldboyz. She hides her identity as a 10-year supporter under the fan nickname “Soon Geum Eum.” When her favorite member, Do Ra Ik, is accused of murder, Se Na takes on the case and risks her career and personal boundaries to defend him.
Sooyoung most recently starred in hit dramas like Not Others, If You Wish Upon Me, and Second Shot at Love.
Regarding her role, the SNSD singer said,
When I first received the script, I couldn’t put it down and read it all the way to the end, probably because I’ve been close to my fans’ hearts. I’m excited to play both a lawyer and a fan girl for the first time. The contrast between the character’s on-screen and off-screen personalities is interesting, and I’m looking forward to showing a new side of myself. I’ll do my best to create a great work.
Kim Jae Young, known for Love in Contract, The Judge of Hell, and Reflection of You, plays Do Ra Ik, the visual and lead vocalist of Goldboyz. His character is struggling with the weight of fame and emotional burnout when he suddenly becomes the main suspect in a murder case.
Kim said,
I’m excited because this character has a lot to offer, and I think I’ll be able to showcase a lot of different aspects.
Idol Eye will premiere on Channel ENA and stream for free on KT Genie TV in late 2025.
