Sung Hanbin and Myung Jaehyun Exit M Countdown After Nearly 2 Years as MCs

Sung Hanbin and Myung Jaehyun as MCs of M Countdown

ZEROBASEONE’s Sung Hanbin and BOYNEXTDOOR’s Myung Jaehyun will bid farewell to Mnet’s music show M Countdown. As reported by IZE, their final broadcast as MCs will air on September 4, marking the end of a journey that lasted 1 year and 8 months.

The pair joined M Countdown in January last year, taking the stage alongside RIIZE’s Sohee to form a three-MC system. Their chemistry quickly became a highlight of the program, earning them the nickname “Shine Mongtocat” from fans. The trio’s bright energy and easygoing teamwork became a signature feature of the show.

Sohee was the first to step away in February to focus on her team activities, leaving Sung Hanbin and Myung Jaehyun to continue as a duo. Now, with both of them preparing to leave at the same time, the “Shine Mongtocat” era has officially come to a close.

Throughout his time on the program, Myung Jaehyun stood out for his lively personality and relaxed hosting style. His cheerful energy helped put guest artists at ease while also drawing viewers in. Sung Hanbin, meanwhile, brought stability and charm with his confident MC skills. He further displayed his hosting abilities earlier this year as MC for Mnet’s World of Street Woman Fighter, which aired in May.

Their teamwork as MCs was not only appreciated by fans but also seen as a driving force that lifted the show’s atmosphere week after week. With both of them stepping down, anticipation is now turning toward the new lineup of MCs who will succeed them.

Outside of M Countdown, both artists continue to thrive in their group activities. BOYNEXTDOOR, with Myung Jaehyun as a member, became million-sellers with their third mini album 19.99 in 2024 and repeated that success with their fourth mini album No Genre in May this year. They also spent four consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 chart.

ZEROBASEONE, led by Sung Hanbin, also remains at the forefront of 5th-generation K-pop. The group released their first full-length album, Never Say Never, on Monday, which has already sold over a million copies. Since debuting in July 2023, they have achieved million-seller status with five consecutive albums and entered the Billboard 200 with their fifth mini album, peaking at No. 28.
