TVXQ to Continue Their Journey with SM Entertainment

TVXQ is extending its remarkable 22-year partnership with SM Entertainment. The group, consisting of Yunho and Changmin, has been with the agency since its debut in 2003.

On April 2, it was announced that TVXQ has renewed their contract with SM Entertainment, continuing a partnership that began with their debut in 2003. With this contract renewal, the K-pop duo will continue to work closely with SM Entertainment on various music, performance, and other projects moving forward.

Regarding the contract renewal, SM Entertainment stated, “We are thrilled to continue our journey with TVXQ. As a K-pop legend who has been part of SM’s history, we will actively support Yunho and Changmin’s diverse activities in various ways.”

Yunho stated, ‘I’m filled with new emotions as I continue my relationship with SM, which has been with me since my debut. I’ll always do my best to show our fans, who have been giving us endless love and support, a great image in various fields.’

Changmin also expressed, ‘It’s very meaningful that I’ve been able to be with SM for over 20 years. Together with SM, which always supports and gives us strength, I’ll create a more beautiful future for TVXQ.’

TVXQ debuted in December 2003, but their journey wasn’t without challenges. Originally a 5-member group, former members Kim Jaejoong, Junsu, and Yoochun parted ways to form JYJ.

In 2009, Kim Jaejoong, Junsu, and Yoochun took SM Entertainment to court over issues with their contracts, including lengthy terms, unauthorized commitments, and uneven profit sharing. Later that year, a court granted them an injunction. Despite this, the three continued performing with TVXQ in Japan.

Their final show as a five-piece group was on December 31, 2009, at the NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen. A few months later, they released their last single together, “Toki o Tomete,” in March 2010.

While Kim Jaejoong, Junsu, and Yoochan formed another group JYJ, Yunho and Changmin continued as TVXQ. The duo renewed their contract with SM Entertainment multiple times based on mutual trust.

This year, TVXQ will celebrate their 22nd debut anniversary as South Korea’s pioneering K-pop group. They are known for their iconic hits like “Hug”, “Rising Sun”, “MIROTIC”, “Keep Your Head Down”, and “Stand by U”.
