Woozi Breaks Down in Tears as SEVENTEEN Takes Home Daesang at MAMA Awards 2024

SEVENTEEN and Woozi winning Artist of the Year at MAMA Awards 2024

2024 has been a remarkable year for SEVENTEEN!

Their outstanding achievements this year were recognized at the MAMA Awards 2024, where the group won five awards. SEVENTEEN took home two Daesangs (Album of the Year, Artist of the Year), Best Male Group, VISA Super Stage, and Fans’ Choice.

Woozi, SEVENTEEN member and the mastermind behind their music, could not hold back tears as the group won two grand prizes. They joined EXO, BIGBANG, BTS, and NewJeans as the only group to win the “Artist of the Year” award.

SEVENTEEN made history by becoming the third group to win the “Album of the Year” award, a feat previously achieved by EXO and BTS. This year, they took home the prestigious award for their album “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN,” following their win last year for “FML.”

Woozi is credited as a songwriter and composer for nearly all of SEVENTEEN’s music since their debut.

As the driving force behind SEVENTEEN’s chart-topping hits, Woozi’s tearful reaction to the group’s win spoke volumes about the depth of his feelings.

The 28-year-old vocalist began his emotional speech, saying, “I don’t know why my heart aches every time our team gets an award. What’s so sad? SEVENTEEN has won two MAMA Awards in a row this year, this is the second one we have got this season.”

He expressed, “It was something that could never happen to us, imagination is freedom, but it wasn’t the time for me to imagine anything like this.”

Woozi continued, “I am sorry… I don’t talk a lot. Actually, yesterday was my birthday and I didn’t want anyone else to celebrate my birthday because of pressure but I can’t help but feel bad about receiving such a great award like my birthday present.”

For the past 10 years, while making music I have never neglected to study music even for one moment and that’s something I am really proud of… I’ll live on until the very end. Thank you,” he added.

Woozi wrapped his emotional speech by saying, “It’s such a simple and obvious thing to say but I believe that the best reward a singer can get is by making good albums. I will never change and stay strong like all thirteen of us, love you. Thank you.”

In other news, SEVENTEEN will be the first K-pop group to perform at Disney’s year-end Holiday Special on December 1.
