Year-End Award Ceremonies to Proceed as Planned After the Martial Law is Lifted

KBS Drama Awards 2024

After hours of uncertainty, the South Korean entertainment industry is finally getting back on track. With martial law lifted, fans can rejoice as the year’s biggest award shows are still on.

President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law at 10:24 pm on December 3, but it was surprisingly short-lived. Just six hours later, the National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the lifting of martial law, and it was officially revoked on the morning of December 4.

After martial law was declared, many artists officially cancelled their upcoming event including Seo Hyun Jin, Lee Seung Hwan, Kim Soo Hyun, WJSN’s Yeoreum, STAYC’s Sieun, and more.

The entertainment industry is now breathing a sigh of relief as martial law has been lifted. Award ceremonies that were on the brink of getting canceled are now expected to go ahead as scheduled.

After martial law was declared, artists received calls to cancel their upcoming events. However, broadcasters have confirmed that the KBS Drama Awards, SBS Drama Awards, and MBC Drama Awards will proceed as scheduled.

KBS is sticking to its original plan. An official confirmed that the network’s scheduled events, including the Entertainment Awards, will proceed as usual, with no changes to the existing schedule.
