BLACKPINK Jisoo and Park Jeong Min’s Newtopia (formerly known as Influenza) is the most hyped Kdrama at the moment, even before its release.
On August 1, Coupang Play shared new stills from Newtopia and revealed broadcast plans.
Newtopia starring Jisoo from BLACKPINK and Park Jeong Min is set to premiere in 2025.
The filming for the drama began in December 2023 and officially wrapped in July 2024. Previously, it was reported that the drama would premiere by the end of this year, however, Coupang Play confirmed broadcast for 2025.
Newtopia is a zombie thriller set in a Seoul high-rise building, where a soldier, Jae Yoon, and his ex-girlfriend, Yeong Ju, fight to survive and reunite amidst a zombie outbreak.
Jae Yoon, a 26-year-old soldier, struggles with anxiety and obsession over his breakup but finds new strength as he leads his squad against the zombies.
Yeong Ju, a rookie struggling to find her place, becomes empowered as she navigates the zombie-infested city to reach Jae Yoon, discovering her resilience in the process.
Newtopia is directed by Yoon Sung Hyun and penned by Ji Ho Jin and Han Jin Won (writer of the Oscar-winning film Parasite).
This is Jisoo’s second Kdrama after making an acting debut in Snowdrop (2021). In addition, her film Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is also scheduled for the summer of 2025.
Park Jeong Min has proven his acting skills in Shooting Stars, Hellbound, The 8 Show, Reply 1988, and more.
Lastly, Newtopia is scheduled for a 2025 release.
