Kep1er fans were taken aback when news broke that Xiaoting would be taking a sudden break from activities for the rest of December.
What’s got everyone even more confused is the mixed signals coming from her agencies, Topclass (China) WAKEONE and KLAP Entertainment.
On December 5, her Korean agencies WakeOne and KLAP Entertainment released a statement on the group’s official fan cafe about Xiaoting’s future activities. The label stated that the 25-year-old Chinese K-pop idol will not participate in group activities temporarily to pursue solo endeavors in China.
On the other hand, her Chinese agency released a statement that concerned fans. Topclass clarified that her personal commitments in China were confirmed in advance through thorough communication with the Korean labels.
They also revealed that Xiaoting’s absence from the fansign event is not due to her individual activities in China, but rather a decision made by the Korean company in charge of the event.
Topclass stated that they respect the group’s activities and will not interfere with their schedule. They shared that they are always willing to work together to make adjustments and ensure Xiaoting’s participation in group activities whenever possible.
Following the contradictory statements, fans are criticizing WakeOne and holding the agency accountable for Xiaoting’s sudden hiatus and lying to them. Fans are trending various hashtags to express their solidarity with the Kep1er member.
She posted a cryptic photo of Pinnochio, whose nose gets bigger every time he lies, and deleted it 5 seconds later.
After the statements were issued by agencies, she took to Bubble to apologize to fans, “I am so grateful for all their support, and since there are no restrictions on my activities, please don’t misunderstand, anyway, I’ll do my best no matter what, don’t worry.”
Xiating addressed fans, “To our beloved kep1ian, I’m truly sorry to the fans who were planning to come to the fan signing events in December, I am sorry for making you sad and disappointed.”
In other news, Kep1er continued their journey with WakOne Entertainment by signing a contract renewal earlier this year. After the departure of Mashiro and Kang Yeseo, they reorganized into a 7-member girl group in July and continued activities.
