Controversy is swirling around South Korean actor Na In Woo’s military exemption, with many calling for transparency. The 30-year-old actor received a 4th-grade rating, typically reserved for those deemed unfit for active duty.

A petition demands the Military Manpower Administration explain why he was exempt from active duty and assigned to supplementary service.

A netizen has raised concerns about actor Na In Woo’s military service, questioning why he hadn’t enlisted despite being born in 1994. After learning of his exemption, the netizen seeks clarification on Na’s classification under grade 4 supplementary service, which is closer to exemption. The petitioner wants to know why Na was assigned to this category.

They find it puzzling given his impressive physical fitness, standing nearly 190 cm tall with near-perfect eyesight, along with his academic achievements as a graduate of Dankook University.

Moreover, the “Marry My Husband” actor’s active involvement in eight dramas and entertainment programs from 2021 to 2014 while waiting for his assignment as a social service agent, which took three years. There are concerns that his celebrity status may have led to special treatment, especially since there are no national merit or academic exemptions that would typically justify such a classification.

As a result, netizens are calling for a transparent explanation from the Military Manpower Administration to clarify the reasoning behind this classification.

As per a report by Kmedia outlet on December 17, Na In Woo has been exempted from military service after being classified as a Grade 4 supplementary service member and waiting three years without receiving a call-up notice.

The Military Service Act stipulates exemption for those not called up within three years of receiving a Grade 4 rating. This has sparked curiosity about the reasons behind his classification, but his agency has remained silent.

On the work front, Na In Woo will appear in “Motel California”, premiering on January 10.
