BIGHIT MUSIC has revealed that BTS member Jungkook has fallen victim to a massive theft. According to an official statement, his HYBE shares, valued at approximately 8.4 billion won, were stolen.

According to music industry sources on March 22, 33,500 shares of HYBE stock belonging to the “Seven” singer were stolen in January last year, shortly after he began his military service. At the time, the stolen shares were valued at approximately 8.4 billion won, based on HYBE’s stock price.

The thief opened a securities account in Jungkook’s name without his consent and then transferred and sold the stocks owned by the BTS member without authorization. Specifically, 33,000 of the stolen shares were moved to the newly created account, while the remaining 500 shares were illicitly sold to an unrelated party.

BIGHIT MUSIC took immediate action after discovering the theft. The agency quickly suspended all payments related to the stolen shares. As a result, no further financial damage occurred, and the situation was contained.

Jungkook filed a civil lawsuit in 2024 to recover 500 shares of stock that had been stolen and transferred to a third party. The Seoul Western District Court recently ruled in his favor and ordered the third party to return the shares. Meanwhile, the individual responsible for stealing the K-pop star’s stocks is not identified yet.

BIGHIT MUSIC stated,

As soon as the company and the artist became aware of the criminal act, we immediately took measures to prevent substantial damage by freezing the account and restoring it to its original state. Apart from legal action, we have also implemented measures to strengthen information security related to the artist’s personal information and devices to prevent recurrence

On another note, Jungkook’s fame has unfortunately made him a target for privacy invasions. Sasaeng fans have stalked him, stolen his personal information like flight details and home address, and even interrupted his private outings, like dinners with friends.

Meanwhile, Jungkook made his debut as a vocalist and youngest member of BTS in 2013. He made his solo debut after 10 years with the digital single “Seven” in July 2023. He went on to release his debut solo full-length album “Golden” in November of the same year. The album sold millions of copies worldwide and broke numerous records.

Jungkook enlisted in the military in December 2023 and is now serving his mandatory service, scheduled for discharge on June 11.
