Actress and singer Bae Suzy is currently considering a major new role in the upcoming romantic fantasy drama “Men of the Harem”, according to her agency, Management SOOP. The production, based on the popular Naver web novel by author Alphatart, is grabbing attention as Suzy has been offered the lead role of Empress Latil, a formidable ruler who takes male concubines to secure her throne.
“Men of the Harem” Plot
Set in the fictional world of the Tarium Empire, “Men of the Harem” tells the story of Empress Latil, who rises to power in an unusual way. After experiencing betrayal and becoming empress due to her father’s mysterious death, Latil faces pressure to secure her rule through marriage. Breaking with tradition, she cleverly chooses five consorts from different backgrounds to join her harem.
Suzy’s Potential Return to Historical Fantasy
If Suzy accepts the role, this would mark her first major historical-fantasy project since “Gu Family Book” (2013) and “The Sound of a Flower” (2019). Known for her versatility, she has previously starred in hit dramas like “Start-Up,” “While You Were Sleeping* (2017), “Vagabond”. Thee former Miss A member will star alongside her “Uncontrollably Fond” co-star Kim WOn Bin in Netflix’s “Genie, Make a Wish,” slated for release in last quarter of this year. The story revolves around an emotionally numb young woman, Ga Young (Suzy), who accidentally frees a genie and is granted three wishes.
Suzy will also star in a movie, “7 a.m. Breakfast Meeting for the Heartbroken,” with Lee Jin Uk, which is expected to come out this year. In addition, her most anticipated drama, “Delusion,” with Kim Seon Ho will premiere in 2026.

“Men of the Harem” will be helmed by director Lee Eung Bok, known for his work on blockbuster series such as “Sweet Home 2 & 3” (Netflix), “Mr. Sunshine” (tvN), and “Goblin” (tvN). Screenplay duties will be handled by writer Hwang Jin Young, who previously penned “My Dearest* (MBC).
