Kim Jae Won, alongside Kim Go Eun, has joined the cast of the upcoming third season of the popular webtoon-based drama Yumi’s Cells.
Since Yumi’s Cells 3 was announced, there was a lot of anticipation surrounding the casting of the male lead. Ahn Bo Hyun and GOT7’s Jinyoung led the season 1 and 2, respectively, fans were looking forward to seeing Yumi’s new love interest.
On Monday, May 19, TVING confirmed that Kim Jae Won will appear alongside Kim Go Eun in Yumi’s Cells Season 3.
Kim will play Shin Soon Rok, the new PD at Julie Literature’s editorial department in Yumi’s Cells 3. His character appears cool and logical at first, but gradually shows a warmer side.
When assigned to work with Yumi (Kim Go Eun), whose emotional ups and downs disrupt his orderly routine, their relationship develops into an important connection. In the original webtoon, Soon Rok becomes Yumi’s final romantic partner.
Regarding his appearance, the Hierarchy actor shared his thoughts, saying, “I’m excited to join this beloved project, and I’m looking forward to showing my best performance. I’ll do my best to bring Soon Ruk to life, so please give us lots of love and support.”
Kim Jae Won rose to fame with his breakout role in the Netflix original, Hierarchy, last year. He also received praise for his impactful roles in The Tale of Lady Ok and The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call. The 24-year-old actor will be next seen in The Art of Sarah, You and Everything Else, and Sea Village Cloud Pension.
The upcoming season continues Yumi’s journey from an ordinary office worker to a successful romance novelist. After quitting her job to pursue writing, she finally achieves her dream of becoming a popular author whose stories captivate readers. However, love remains her biggest challenge in life.
Yumi’s Cells 3 introduces a fresh romantic dynamic when Soon Rok enters Yumi’s world. As her new editor at the publishing company, his arrival brings unexpected changes to her quiet life.
The new season reunites the talented team behind the drama’s success: director Lee Sang Yeop and writers Song Jae Jung and Kim Kyung Ran. Their previous work on the series earned praise for its fresh approach, becoming Korea’s first project to skillfully blend live-action with 3D animation.
