Suga officially completed his mandatory military service and returned to fans with a sincere and emotional message.
In his first public statement following his discharge, the BTS rapper expressed gratitude to ARMY for their patience and support over the past two years. He also directly addressed the disappointment caused by his DUI incident last year.
After enlisting in September 2023, Suga completed his alternative service on June 18, three days before the scheduled discharge on June 21 by using the remaining leave days. Despite this, his official discharge date is still June 21, 2025.
Moments ago, he shared a heartfelt message on Weverse, thanking fans for their support and apologizing for disappointing fans and fellow BTS members.
Hello everyone, it’s nice to see you. This is SUGA.
It’s been about two years. How has everyone been?
As of today, I have been discharged from my service, and I’m greeting you all after a long time.
It’s also a day I have been waiting for, and since it’s been really a long time, I thought a lot about how I should greet you. More than anything, I wanted to first say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the fans who have waited. I really missed you.
I think the past two years were a time for me to think deeply about myself. I especially felt that I needed to take a step back and put some distance between myself and this work I had been doing for so long. All this time, I had been running forward without looking back at myself, but this period became an opportunity for me to reflect on myself again.
ARMY, thank you and thank you again for waiting. Also, I am sorry for causing disappointment and worries with the incident last year. More than anything, the fact that I hurt the fans’ hearts was so upsetting to me.
I was also very sorry to the members, whose hearts must have been heavy in their own respective positions because of me.
From now on, I will work even harder to repay the love you have given me. I love you. Everyone, I will keep you guys posted from time to time.
Suga, June 21,2025
Suga was embroiled in a DUI scandal when he was caught by the police for drunk driving an e-scooter on August 6, 2024. He fell near his residence and was subsequently breathalyzed by a nearby officer. His blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was reported at 0.227%—nearly three times the South Korean legal limit of 0.08%.
Under a summary indictment, a reduced legal process for minor offenses, Suga avoided a full trial but faced a 15 million won fine for a DUI offense.
At the time, he apologized multiple times for his careless behavior and promised to reflect on his actions and be more cautious moving forward.
Meanwhile, Suga and other members will resume individual activities as the BTS comeback is reportedly delayed to March 2026.
