‘Squid Game’ Fame Lee Byung Hun May Lead the Next Big Spy Drama From ‘The Glory’ Director

Lee Byung Hun, known worldwide for his role as Front Man in Squid Game, is set to return with a new drama from Ahn Gil Ho, director of Netflix hit drama The Glory. 

Now that Squid Game concludes its groundbreaking run, cast members are being approached for high-profile dramas and films. 

According to an exclusive report by IZE, Lee Byung Hun is set to star in director Ahn Gil Ho’s upcoming drama Koreans (working title).

As the Squid Game Season 3 prepares for its release on June 27, Lee is now in the final stages of confirming his next project. Their collaboration is already creating a lot of excitement, and their first project is expected to be a big hit both in Korea and around the world.

His agency, BH Entertainment, stated, “Nothing has been confirmed yet. It’s true that we’ve received an offer and are currently reviewing it positively.”  

Ahn Gil Ho’s work on The Glory, Netflix’s gripping revenge saga, proved his ability to craft intense, character-driven narratives. He has also helmed dramas like Stranger, Record of Youth, Happiness, and Memories of Alhambra. Ahn has collaborated with Netflix once again for fantasy romance drama, Genie, Make a Wish, starring Suzy and Kim Woo Bin.

Koreans is an upcoming spy thriller adapting FX’s acclaimed series The Americans – this time set against the tense backdrop of a divided Korea. The original American version, which ran from 2013 to 2018 for six successful seasons, grabbed attention with its gripping Cold War narrative.  

Lee Byung Hun returns to the spy genre that made him a household name through 2009’s legendary series Iris. Speculation builds about which actress will join him as his on-screen spy partner.

Koreans is currently in production by Studio AA, but the broadcast platform has not been confirmed yet. Given the large production budget the project demands, the team is actively in talks with major global streaming platforms to secure distribution.

Lee Byung Hun will appear in the final Squid Game season as the Front Man on June 23. In the final season, the Front Man, Hwang In Ho, will continue his cat-and-mouse game with Seong Gi Hun, the protagonist. While Gi Hun tries to spare players’ lives, the Front Man views the indebted players as “trash” and believes there’s no hope for humanity.

Last week, Lee Byung Hun guested on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and teased Front Man spin-off, saying, ‘there is a possibility.’
