HYBE America is partnering with Paramount Pictures to produce a new K-pop-themed movie, marking a major milestone for Korean representation in global cinema. The film, which has yet to be titled, will be the first Hollywood production to be filmed entirely in South Korea.
The new K-pop film was announced after the overwhelming success of Netflix’s newly released animated film, KPop Demon Hunters.
Release Date
The new K-pop film is scheduled for theatrical release on February 12, 2027. Pre-production is underway, with the shoot beginning in Korea in September. As stated above, it will be shot fully on Korean soil.
Storyline and Cast
The yet-to-be-titled film will follow the story of a Korean-American teenager who defies her family’s expectations to audition for a global K-pop girl group. The narrative focuses on her determination to chase her dreams despite personal and cultural challenges.
Yoo Ji Young, who voiced Zoey in Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters, will take on a lead role. Eric Nam, known for his role in Transplant, is also confirmed as part of the main cast.
Production Team
Directed by Benson Lee and written by Eileen Shim, the film brings together a strong production lineup. James Shin (HYBE America Film & TV) will produce alongside Arthur Spector, Joshua Davis, and Scooter Braun (former HYBE America CEO).
Executive producers include Joshua Behrman, John Jaozirni, and Scott Manson. Paramount Pictures SVP Brian Oh will oversee the project.
Director Benson Lee sees the film as a ‘love letter to K-pop,’ its energy, passion, and the fans who bring it to life. He also thanked Paramount Pictures and the team behind the project for their support.
HYBE America’s James Shin called the project a major opportunity to share K-pop with a global audience. He said the film will showcase the genre’s creativity and deliver a message about chasing dreams even when the odds are against you.
The announcement arrives hot on the heels of Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters. The animated Netflix film follows the story of HUNTR/X, a K-pop girl group who secretly moonlight as demon slayers while balancing their music careers. The group faces off against Saja Boys, a rival boy band made up of demons who feed on fan energy.
Currently, eight songs from KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack are charting on Billboard HOT 100.
