The project marks the first on-screen collaboration between Han and Choi, pairing one of the industry’s top rising actresses with a seasoned cinema icon.

‘The Intern’ Plot Overview

The upcoming film is a localized remake of The Intern (2015), directed by Nancy Meyers. The original told the story of Jules, a young, overwhelmed CEO, and Ben, a 70-year-old widower who joins her company as a senior intern.

The remake centers on a multigenerational workplace friendship: a 30-something female CEO of a rapidly growing startup forms an unlikely bond with a 70-year-old intern.

Production and Release Window

Filming is under way for the Korean remake of The Intern, starting in September 2025 through early December. It is expected that the film will be released in cinemas in late 2026 or early 2027.

The film is produced by Anthology Studios, a company founded by industry leaders, including Choi Jae Wo,n alongside actor Song Kang Ho and director Kim Jee Woon. The project has been officially registered with the Korean Film Council and Korea Media Rating Board.

Han So Hee Takes On Anne Hathaway’s Role

Han So Hee has been cast as the Korean equivalent of Jules Austin, the ambitious female CEO role originally played by Anne Hathaway.

Her agency, 9ato Entertainment, confirmed today she is officially attached to the project. Han is known for her work in My Name, Nevertheless, and Gyeongseong Creature.

Choi Min Sik to Play Ben

Choi Min Sik will take on the counterpart to Ben Whittaker, the 70-year-old senior intern role played by Robert De Niro. His involvement was confirmed shortly after Han So Hee’s casting update.

Choi carries decades of experience from acclaimed titles such as Oldboy, New World, and Exhuma.

Original Film Received Overwhelming Response in Korea

The 2015 version of The Intern, directed by Nancy Meyers and starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, was produced on a $35 million budget and grossed nearly $194 million globally, more than four times its budget. In South Korea, it performed well during the Chuseok holiday season, attracting over 3.8 million cinema-goers.

The Korean remake of The Intern is already drawing attention, led by rising star Han So Hee and veteran actor Choi Min Sik. Backed by an experienced production team and a relatable storyline tailored to Korean audiences, the film is expected to appeal to viewers when it premieres in theaters.
