According to Xports News on September 23, the production team has confirmed the simultaneous production of Seasons 2 and 3, with full-scale preparations now underway. Filming for both seasons is expected to begin in the summer of 2026, following detailed pre-production work starting later this year.

The news fulfills earlier hints from the show’s creator, ENT specialist and writer Lee Nak Jun, who had revealed that the series was originally designed with a multi-season arc in mind.

Since premiering on Netflix on January 24, 2025, the drama has become a cultural phenomenon. Known in Korea as Trauma Center and internationally promoted as The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, the series tells the gripping story of Baek Kang Hyuk, a genius but unconventional trauma surgeon played by Ju Ji Hoon. After serving in conflict zones, Baek returns home and takes on the challenge of revitalizing a failing trauma center at Hankuk National University Hospital.

Alongside him are fellow surgeon Yang Jae Won, portrayed by rising star Choo Young Woo, nurse Cheon Jang Mi played by Ha Young, and head of general surgery Han Yu Rim, played by Yoon Kyung Ho. The cast also includes Jung Jae Kwang and veteran actor Kim Eui Sung.

The drama, based on Lee Nak Jun’s popular web novel and webtoon Trauma Center: Golden Hour, has been praised for mixing high-stakes medical emergencies with action-driven sequences and sharp comedic touches. Critics and audiences alike highlighted Ju Ji Hoon’s performance as a career-best, with the South China Morning Post noting that he has “seldom been better.”

Its success was not confined to Korea. Within ten days of release, the show topped Netflix’s global non-English TV rankings, dominating the charts in 17 countries, including South Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan. It also reached the Top 10 in 63 countries, spanning Europe, Asia, and the Americas, from France and Italy to Brazil and Japan.

The show’s popularity translated into major recognition at award ceremonies. At the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards in May, Ju Ji Hoon won Best Actor in the television category for his portrayal of Baek Kang Hyuk. Just two months later, the series triumphed at the 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards, winning Best Drama while also earning Best Actor for Ju Ji Hoon once again and Best New Actor for Choo Young Woo.

The cast themselves have expressed a strong interest in continuing the story. Ju Ji-hoon remarked, “If you love this work and want the next story, it’s not something you can refuse.” Choo Young-woo added, “I will definitely do it. Since we’ve grown together, I want to play any role if Season 2 comes out.”

While official plot details remain under wraps, the original webtoon provides potential storylines. Upcoming arcs may address community and political challenges faced by the trauma center, including resistance from local residents and disputes tied to its helicopter operations, which were introduced in the finale of Season 1. Themes involving media, government involvement, and the struggle to sustain vital medical resources are also expected to be expanded upon.

With the official announcement of Seasons 2 and 3 happening soon, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is set to build on its record-breaking first season and continue the journey of Dr. Baek Kang-hyuk and his team as they fight to save lives against the odds.
