The drama will be Kim’s first time in a historical role, which makes it even more exciting for her fans. On the other hand, it is Kang Tae Oh’s second drama after his military discharge in March 2024. The 31-year-old K-drama heartthrob led romance drama The Potato Lab earlier this year and made a cameo in the recently concluded To The Moon.

“Moon River” Release Date and Streaming Details

Moon River premiered on November 7, 2025, on MBC TV, airing every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. (KST). It was supposed to start a week earlier on October 31, but was delayed because of baseball playoff broadcasts. The drama has 14 episodes, with the final one expected to air on December 20, 2025. For global viewers, Moon River is available on Rakuten Viki, which offers subtitles in several languages, including English.

Plot Overview

Set in the Joseon era, Moon River follows Crown Prince Yi Gang (played by Kang Tae Oh). The prince once lived for love, but his wife, the crown princess, died tragically. Since then, he has been consumed by grief and revenge. To hide his pain, he acts carefree in public, pretending not to take anything seriously.

On the other hand, Park Dal-i (played by Kim Sejeong) is a lively and clever merchant who travels from town to town. She has lost all memories of her past and has no idea who she truly is. Her life takes a strange turn when, one morning, she wakes up in the prince’s body. At the same time, Yi Gang finds himself trapped in hers.

This sudden soul swap throws both into chaos. The prince must learn how to live like a commoner for the first time. Dal-i, meanwhile, must pretend to be royalty inside the strict and dangerous palace walls. As they try to figure out how to switch back, they are forced to trust each other and face one dangerous situation after another.

Plus, Dal-i looks exactly like the late crown princess, which deeply confuses Yi Gang and everyone around them. Kim Han Cheol (played by Jin Goo), the powerful Left State Councillor who controls the palace and manipulates the king from behind the scenes.

Cast and Characters

  • Kim Sejeong plays Park Dal-i, the bright, independent merchant who ends up in the body of a prince.
  • Kang Tae Oh plays Crown Prince Yi Gang, a man haunted by loss. When he ends up in Dal-i’s body, he learns about the struggles of ordinary people for the first time.
  • Jin Goo plays Kim Han Cheol, the Left State Councillor who wields real power in the kingdom. He’s cunning, ruthless, and the biggest threat to both Yi Gang and Dal-i.
  • Lee Shin Young appears as Yi Un, the deposed prince and Yi Gang’s younger brother, who believes in peace over politics.
  • Hong Su Ju plays Kim Woo Hee, the ambitious daughter of Kim Han Cheol, who’s caught between love and her father’s ambitions.

The supporting cast also includes Kim Nam Hee as King Yi Hui, Yi Gang’s father. Though he wears the crown, he is more of a puppet under Han Cheol’s control. Dal-i’s warm merchant family is played by Im Ki Hong and Park Bo Kyung.

Moon River Trailer

The first Moon River trailer, released in September, immediately caught attention online. It opens with funny scenes of the two leads panicking after realizing they’ve switched bodies. Their clumsy attempts to act like each other had viewers laughing.

The trailer also shows that there’s much more behind the comedy, including secrets about the crown princess’s death and the political games inside the palace.
