Disney+ has confirmed the production of its new original series Born Guilty, a crime action noir drama. This Disney+ original is based on a popular webtoon by Lee Moo Gi on Kakao Webtoon. The series stars Park Seo Joon, Uhm Tae Goo, and Jo Hye Joo, and is set to be released worldwide on Disney+ next year.
It is set in a lawless city in the 1980s during a redevelopment boom ahead of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The story follows two very different men. “Paengi” is a ruthless and ambitious figure who will do anything to achieve his goals. On the other hand, “Ssaengdak” is a gang member trying to survive.
The original webtoon became popular for its detailed story, strong characters, and intense plot.
Park Seo Joon plays “Paengi,” a mysterious and powerful man who suddenly appears in an area about to be redeveloped. As he enters the drug business, he pulls others into his plans. Park, known for projects like Gyeongseong Creature and Concrete Utopia, is expected to show a darker side. He recently returned to the romance genre with drama, Surely Tomorrow, opposite Won Ji An.
Uhm Tae Goo plays “Ssaengdak,” a member of the Bukgu-pa gang. His life changes completely after he betrays his group and accepts Paengi’s risky offer. Uhm has been praised for his strong performances in Light Shop, My Sweet Mobster, and Hometown.
Jo Hye Joo takes on the role of “Bok Hee,” a key supplier in the drug trade and Paengi’s first love. Her character reunites with him and makes bold decisions. She is known for her roles in My Demon, Reborn Rich, and Dear Hyeri.
Born Guilty is directed by Hong Won Chan, known for the film Deliver Us from Evil. This will be Hong’s first time directing a series.The drama is produced by New Point and Plus Media Entertainment.
During the script reading, the actors quickly got into their roles and showed strong teamwork. Park Seo Joon said it is a role he has been wanting to play. Uhm Tae Goo shared that he feels both “nervous and excited.” Jo Hye Joo also said she was “intrigued” by the story and wanted to “participate immediately after joining the project.”
Meanwhile, Born Guilty will be part of Disney+’s 2027 Kdrama lineup.
